Welcome
This Account Deletion Policy explains how you can permanently delete your Simple Sustenance account, what happens when you request deletion, what information is removed, what information we may be legally required to retain, and how account deletion affects your subscription.
This Policy applies to all users of the Simple Sustenance website and mobile applications.
It should be read alongside our:
- Privacy Policy;
- Terms and Conditions;
- Cookie Policy; and
- Refund Policy.
By using Simple Sustenance, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy.
1. About us
Simple Sustenance is owned and operated by NK Digital Limited (“Simple Sustenance”, “we”, “our” or “us”).
If you have any questions regarding account deletion, you can contact us using the details provided at the end of this Policy.
2. Your right to delete your account
We believe that you should remain in control of your personal information.
You may request permanent deletion of your Simple Sustenance account at any time.
There is no fee for requesting account deletion.
You are not required to provide a reason for deleting your account.
Requesting deletion will permanently close your account and remove your access to the Service once the deletion process has been completed.
3. Ways to delete your account
Depending on how you access Simple Sustenance, you may request account deletion in one of the following ways.
Through your account settings
Where available, you can permanently delete your account by:
- Signing into your account.
- Opening Settings.
- Selecting Privacy & Security.
- Choosing Delete Account.
- Following the on-screen confirmation process.
For your security, you may be asked to re-enter your password before deletion can proceed.
By contacting our support team
If you are unable to access your account, you may request deletion by contacting our support team.
To help us verify your identity, please include:
- your full name;
- the email address associated with your account;
- confirmation that you wish to permanently delete your account.
We may request additional information where reasonably necessary to verify your identity and protect your personal information.
4. Identity verification
Protecting your personal information is important to us.
Before deleting an account, we may ask you to verify your identity.
Verification may include:
- confirming your registered email address;
- confirming recent account activity;
- responding to a verification email;
- providing other reasonable information where necessary.
This helps prevent unauthorised deletion requests.
If we are unable to verify your identity, we may be unable to complete your request until sufficient verification has been provided.
5. What happens when you delete your account
Once your deletion request has been verified and processed:
- your account will be permanently closed;
- you will no longer be able to sign in;
- access to premium features will end (unless your subscription remains active through a third-party billing platform);
- your saved meal plans will be deleted;
- your saved recipes will be deleted;
- your shopping lists will be deleted;
- your favourites will be deleted;
- your profile information will be removed from our active systems;
- your personal preferences will be removed where technically possible.
This process is intended to permanently remove your account from our active production systems.
Once completed, account deletion cannot normally be reversed.
If you later decide to use Simple Sustenance again, you will need to create a new account.
6. Information that may be retained
Although we aim to delete personal information wherever possible, there are situations where we are legally required or legitimately entitled to retain certain information.
Examples include information retained for:
- compliance with legal obligations;
- taxation and accounting requirements;
- fraud prevention;
- payment dispute resolution;
- enforcing our Terms and Conditions;
- defending legal claims;
- information security;
- maintaining appropriate business records.
Where information is retained, we will keep it only for as long as necessary for the relevant purpose and in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable law.
Where possible, retained information will be isolated from normal operational use and protected using appropriate security measures.
7. Backups
Like many online services, Simple Sustenance maintains secure encrypted backups to protect against accidental data loss and support disaster recovery.
Deleted information may continue to exist within encrypted backup systems for a limited period until those backups are securely overwritten in the ordinary course of our backup retention schedule.
Backup copies:
- are not used to restore deleted accounts under normal circumstances;
- are protected using appropriate technical and organisational security measures;
- are retained only for legitimate operational and security purposes.
Once backup retention periods expire, deleted information is permanently removed from those systems.
8. Shared or publicly visible content
If Simple Sustenance introduces community features in the future, such as recipe comments, reviews or discussion forums, deleting your account may not automatically remove content that has already been shared publicly.
Where applicable:
- publicly visible content may be anonymised;
- your name may be removed or replaced with “Deleted User”;
- content may remain where necessary to preserve the integrity of discussions or comply with legal obligations.
We will explain any such functionality within the Service if and when these features become available.
9. Subscriptions and account deletion
Deleting your Simple Sustenance account does not automatically cancel an active subscription.
Subscriptions are managed by the platform through which they were purchased.
You remain responsible for cancelling any active subscription before or after requesting account deletion, depending on the billing platform used.
Failure to cancel a subscription may result in future renewal charges in accordance with the applicable subscription terms.
Website subscriptions
If you purchased your subscription directly through the Simple Sustenance website using Stripe, you may cancel your subscription by:
- signing into your account (before requesting deletion);
- visiting your subscription settings;
- selecting Cancel Subscription; or
- contacting our support team if you are unable to access your account.
Cancellation prevents future renewals but does not normally entitle you to a refund for the current billing period unless required by law or our Refund Policy.
Apple App Store subscriptions
Subscriptions purchased through Apple’s App Store are billed and managed entirely by Apple.
To cancel your subscription, you must use your Apple ID subscription settings.
Deleting your Simple Sustenance account does not cancel your App Store subscription.
If your subscription is not cancelled through Apple, Apple may continue to renew it in accordance with its own terms and conditions.
Google Play subscriptions
Subscriptions purchased through Google Play are billed and managed by Google.
To prevent future renewals, you must cancel the subscription through your Google account.
Deleting your Simple Sustenance account does not automatically cancel subscriptions purchased through Google Play.
10. Can I change my mind?
If you submit a deletion request but later decide not to proceed, please contact us as soon as possible.
Where the deletion process has not yet been completed, we may be able to cancel your request.
Once deletion has been finalised, your account cannot normally be restored.
You would need to create a new account to use Simple Sustenance again.
11. How long does deletion take?
We aim to process verified account deletion requests as quickly as reasonably possible.
In most cases:
- verification begins shortly after we receive your request;
- account deletion is completed within 30 days of successful identity verification;
- where legally required or operationally necessary, certain information may remain securely retained for longer as explained in this Policy and our Privacy Policy.
Where exceptional circumstances arise—for example, where further identity verification is required or a legal obligation prevents immediate deletion—we will inform you where reasonably practicable.
12. Your privacy rights
Deleting your account is only one of the rights available to you under applicable data protection legislation.
Depending on your circumstances, you may also have the right to:
- access your personal information;
- correct inaccurate information;
- request restriction of processing;
- object to certain processing activities;
- receive a portable copy of your information where applicable;
- withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.
Further information is available in our Privacy Policy.
13. Security during the deletion process
We take reasonable steps to protect your information throughout the deletion process.
These measures may include:
- identity verification;
- secure authentication procedures;
- encrypted communications where appropriate;
- restricted staff access;
- audit logging of deletion requests.
These safeguards help prevent unauthorised access or accidental deletion.
14. Exceptional circumstances
There may be limited situations in which we cannot immediately complete an account deletion request.
Examples include where:
- we are required to retain information by law;
- a payment dispute is ongoing;
- fraudulent activity is being investigated;
- there is an unresolved security incident;
- disclosure is required by a court or regulatory authority.
Where retention is necessary, we will keep only the minimum information required for the relevant purpose and only for as long as required.
